Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the name of an operation that allows you to correct impaired nasal breathing and achieve an optimal aesthetic shape suitable for the details of the patient's face. The most important function of the nose is breathing. In this respect, the primary purpose of the operation should be to preserve this function. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed for both functionality and aesthetics.

Who is Rhinoplasty Performed On?

General dissatisfaction with the shape of the nose is among the main reasons for these types of operations. Rhinoplasty can be performed on all patients who are dissatisfied with the shape of their nose and have no health obstacles to surgery. The main complaints for rhinoplasty surgery are the hump, length, and shape of the nasal tip, or the shape or asymmetry of the nostrils. With rhinoplasty, you can lengthen or shorten your nose, reduce the size of your nostrils, change the nasal tip, and change the position of the nose relative to the lips and forehead.

What are the Rhinoplasty Methods?

Generally, rhinoplasty has two methods: open and closed surgery. Each technique has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on the situation.

Open Rhinoplasty

The operation is performed with a small incision between the nostrils at the bottom of the nose. This access provides the surgeon with a wider field of view.

Benefits:In open rhinoplasty, an incision is made from inside the nose to allow complete visualization of the nose's bones, cartilages, and muscles.

The incision starts from the tip of the nose and continues to the nasal septum. Furthermore, this incision passes to the other side in the shape of a gull's wing or a 'W'. Thus, the visible part of the incision on the nasal septum is 2 mm.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty is a rhinoplasty technique performed through incisions made inside the nose. The surgery is performed through incisions made through the nostrils without fully opening the nose. A 3-4 cm incision is made from inside the nose with a scalpel. Thus, the surgeon gains access to the bone and cartilage of the nose. The surgeon lifts the skin in the manipulation area and removes or adds cartilage parts. At the end of the surgery, the surgeon sutures these incisions.

Advantages: Closed rhinoplasty is shorter than open rhinoplasty. Pre-operative preparation rules are the same for both methods. If the patient is using blood thinners, they should be discontinued under doctor's supervision before the rhinoplasty surgery. The difference between the open and closed methods is only in the surgical approach. If you want to have the nose structure you desire, you can arrange a meeting with our institution
